How to Get Rid of a Nose Bleed

You should try to stop your nose from bleeding when you first see the sight of blood. Many things cause a nose bleed, but either way, having a nose bleed can sometimes be scary. The important thing to do is to stay calm. Here are some helpful tips to get rid of your nose bleed.

Step One

Apply gentle pressure to your nostrils while leaning forward. Lean your head slightly forward so that you do not swallow any blood, because that can make you feel sick. Do not lean to far over, or lay down. You should keep your head above your heart because that will decrease the blood amount.

Step Two

Apply pressure to the soft part of your nose. Apply the pressure for at lease five minutes. If the bleeding has not stopped by then, apply pressure for ten minutes. When you are doing thing, breathe through your mouth. If by the end of ten minutes your nose has not stopped bleeding, you will need to get to a doctor right away.

Step Three

When the bleeding has finally stopped, put a cold rag on the bridge of your nose, or an ice pack. This will prevent your nose from swelling.

Step Four

After the bleeding has stopped you may feel the need to clean your nose out, but do not do this. It could cause your nose to bleed again. Instead try using a cold vaporizer. This will soften up the membranes in your nose and will help stop another nose bleed from happening.

Step Five

You can also try to apply a small amount of Vaseline to the lower inside of your nostrils. Do not use your finger to do so, use a Q-tip. This could help soften up your nostrils which in turn could help the bleeding stop.

If you happen to have a nose bleed, do not panic. Although it is very scary to deal with, staying calm and following these tips should stop the bleeding. If it does not stop, remember to get emergency attention. Although there are many reasons for why your nose could bleed, it is a very common thing. You want to stay calm especially if a child has a nose bleed, becasue they can become very scared. After you have tried all the steps above, and the bleeding still has not stopped don’t forget to seek emergency medical help.
