Eat a light meal before traveling as an extremely heavy meal can add to stomach problems exacerbated by air sickness and cabin pressure. Soup or fruit salad is a good choice for a light meal before take-off.
Bring some hard candy on the plane with you especially lemon or ginger flavored. If you want to get rid of occurring air sickness, this will these types of flavors will help. Peppermint flavored candy or tea can also help with air sickness symptoms especially the upset stomach part. If you want to get rid of air sickness, suck on a peppermint or drink some peppermint tea. If you have a history of recurring air sickness when you travel, bring a packet or two along with you so you’ll have it on hand.
See your doctor before take-off
Medications such as Dramamine are available to help combat air sickness. Scopolamine patches are helpful for people who suffer from motion sickness as an alternative to taking a pill or capsule. Some people have found acupressure wristbands to be helpful if they experience air sickness while traveling by air.
Relax
While telling yourself to relax is often easier said than done, concentrating on air sickness will only make matters worse. Try to distract yourself by focusing on your breathing especially during take-off and landing. Try the 4, 7, 8 breathing technique. Breathe in for a count of four seconds, hold for seven seconds and then expel the breath for a count of eight seconds. Focus your attention on the clouds outside the window or on the other passengers as you attempt to relax. Do not get up and walk around. Staying in your seat reduces symptoms of air sickness.
Getting airsick takes a lot of the fun out of traveling. Use these methods to prevent air sickness from ever occurring and if it does, you’ll be able to get rid of it before it ruins your traveling adventure.
