How to Get Rid of Ants
Spotting ants in your home is an alarming situation. This calls for an immediate action. If you are thinking that you should avoid this situation, then things are definitely going to get worse. The ants will swarm your house in search of food and if they are going to find it in abundance, then they will take it as their safe haven.
Keep your Kitchen Clean
This is something that we don’t want. In order to take control of the situation, you can use different tips and ideas discussed in this article to get rid of the ants. A clean house environment will prevent the ants from swarming your house because they will not find any food. Keeping your kitchen clean is of utmost importance. You must clean all the surfaces with vinegar solution.
Store Food Correctly
Storing your food correctly in air tight containers is going to keep your food fresh and the ants away. There should not be any dirty dishes, standing water, or food in the sink. If you have pets, you can put their food bowl in a large bowl that is filled with water, which will prevent the ants from getting to the food.
When you see an ant wandering in search of food, you must not let it reach the colony. Because when they are going to find the food source, go back to their colony and inform other ants of the food source. Then you will see a trail of ants going to the food source. You must kill the ant there and then and spray the trail with a bleach solution.
Seal up Windows and Doors to Keep Ants Out
You can protect your home by sealing up the windows and other spaces. This will also help you get a better temperature environment and will save you money on energy bill. Selecting poisons to kill ants is something that needs to be done very carefully. Diatomaceous earth is an absorbent, which works by absorbing all the moisture of ants and kill them. This is lined on the border of your house so that the ants cannot cross that line.
But this needs to be used with great care as you would not want the pets to sniff on it. Salt is also a better remedy that can be used to line under the doors and walls. Baby talc is also used by a lot of individuals to use as a barrier for ants from getting into the house.
Use Cornmeal to Kill Ants
Cornmeal might interest a lot of you as it is not poisonous and works as an effective firepower against ants. When the ants eat cornmeal, it works by swelling in their digestive systems, which causes them to die. The other substances that acts as repellants to ants are vinegar, peppermint oil, cinnamon, black pepper, bay leaves, etc. These all will prevent the ants from coming into your home. You can try them to see, which one is working most efficiently for your home protection.
Boric Acid and Ant Bait
The most common product used to control ants is boric acid. Mix boric acid in one cup of warm water, half cup of sugar, two tablespoons of boric acid. Then you can soak the cotton balls into that solution and place them near the trails. Just be sure that you are not using it if you have kids at home. If you are unable to control the ants with all the above measures then you can use ant bait as a last resort.
For the most common ant bait, you can use a sweet ant base mixed with Borax, which contains boric acid. The other bait that you can use is protein based ant bait, which comes in granular form and used to kill the ants in your front and backyard. This will help you to minimize the ant problem and can also help you totally resolve it.
I hope this article will help you control the ant problem by using the different techniques and methods to get rid of ants mentioned above!

I read a tip somewhere to spread chalkdust along the edges/corners of where you have an ant problem. Supposedly, they won’t cross the line of chalk. We are having a problem in the kitchen this year, commercial ant traps did NOT work, and after trying most of the above suggestions to no avail,I thought I would try the chalkdust. I spread it wherever I saw the little buggers; along my backsplash adjoining my countertop and inside the window well and VOILA! no more ants! It’s a cheap fix (must work like the cornmeal, but it’s not a food product) so, it can’t hurt to give it a try, right? Best of luck! Mammadunn
