Supposedly, they won't cross the line of chalk. We are having a problem in the kitchen this year, commercial ant traps did NOT work, and after trying most of the above suggestions to no avail,I thought I would try the chalkdust. I spread it wherever I saw the little buggers; along my backsplash adjoining my countertop and inside the window well and VOILA! no more ants! It's a cheap fix (must work like the cornmeal, but it's not a food product) so, it can't hurt to give it a try, right? Best of luck!
