Causes of Bad Breath

If you didn’t know, bad breath is caused by the one thing that is usually the cause for lots of humanly defects; and that would be- bacteria. Bacteria is always accumulating in your mouth, as disgusting as that sounds. When you eat food, or stick your hands or anything else near your mouth, bacteria could be on it. The most common way people experience bad breath, is through a good night’s sleep. The bacteria has all night long to settle in your mouth, causing the terrible odor you experience in the morning. This is usually just an everyday thing for most people, but some have it to a worse degree. Halitosis refers to the medical name for bad breath. It is a serious problem for some people, but they have to know that there’s plenty of ways to manage it.

Brush and Floss Your Teeth Regularly

The most important thing anyone could possibly do to prevent bad breath in the long run, is to brush and floss regularly. If you don’t force yourself to at least brush once in the morning and once in the afternoon, you can definitely expect a very unpleasant odor emitting from your mouth. It doesn’t take more than a couple minutes, just to brush every nook ‘n’ corner of your mouth, and get rid of all the bacteria that had built up overnight or over the day.

Flossing is also something most people who suffer with daily bad breath should consider. Flossing will get all the bits of food out of your teeth, where even more bacteria could be hiding and slowly growing. One thing most people forget to brush, is there tongue. Yes, that’s right! Bacteria grows everywhere, not just around your teeth. Make sure you brush for a couple of minutes too, because doing it for only 30 seconds is just a waste of your time. In addition to curing the breath, it also makes your teeth much more attractive. It’s a double win! If you weren’t already brushing your teeth before though, and wondering why you had bad breath, well..that’s just being insane. It should just be a given, that when you don’t brush your teeth or floss, that your breath will only get worse. So, just take the time to take care of that in the morning and night, and it really makes a difference.

Natural Ways to Get Rid of Bad Breath

Brushing your teeth IS the most common way of helping that odor, but there’s plenty of other ways that can help in short bursts, or in the long run. One natural way, is to chew or consume herbs. There’s lots of herbs that have natural ingredients that destroy bacteria, and make your breath much cooler and attractive. It’s very useful to have some at hand, when you need it the most. If you can’t bring yourself to chew on a leaf-looking object, then it’s very easy to have an herbal mix in a beverage. There’s lots of teas that will have the same effect that chewing on an herb will. It quenches thirst, and makes you a bit more comfortable with your breath; But maybe tea and herbs isn’t for you.

Natural remedies are a good choice, but not everyone feels comfortable using them. In which case, there’s hundreds of different types of mouthwashes available. The thing people should realize though, is that some mouthwashes don’t get rid of bad breath completely, but only for the time being. If you’re looking for something that will really be useful, then find an antiseptic mouthwash, which will kill the odor causing bacteria that have been hanging around inside your mouth. This product can reduce plaque, and stop a lot of bacteria from forming beforehand. Once again, this is a very easy thing you can do in the morning and at night. It takes only a minute, and will give you a very refreshing smell.

Chewing Gum to Make Your Breath Smell Better

Here’s something that’s a more casual way of banishing bad breath: chewing gum. Yep, even that can help this embarrassing problem. This is something which a lot of kids get used to. They have to remember though, that they won’t have any good oral health, without brushing and flossing too. Popping in a piece of gum is done in seconds, and can be done in almost any situation. Carrying a pack of it around never hurts, and sugarless gum is better than others, for destroying bacteria. What a lot of people don’t know, is how gum works to get rid of that bacteria. When you chew gum, you salivate more, and salivation and moistness is what destroys that bacteria, along with the odor. Now, this doesn’t mean you can just gulp down a few glasses of water and get rid of it, but that does help. Saliva has special enzymes that are made to come to the rescue, and kill bacteria. Make sure not to chew too much gum though, as it can cause jaw problems. If you don’t like gum, then you could also use breath mints. Take note though, that they don’t make you salivate as much, which in turn, only stops the odor for a short time.

So, there are plenty of tips in assisting that unpleasant aroma in your mouth; and helping getting rid of the bacteria that causes it. Don’t find yourself breathing into your hand now, and checking for bad breath, just take out a piece of gum, herb, mouthwash to go, or prevent it from the get-go by just brushing your teeth, flossing, and applying some mouthwash. It’s not as hard as it seems to be, and you can definitely help prevent bad breath by referring to all the ways that have been stated.
