How to Get Rid of Car Sickness
Here you are heading out for your family vacation on a long trip that is looking at taking about 4 hours to get to your destination. Oh, how much fun it’s going to be when you get there, but then you hear one of those dreaded sounds you just don’t want to hear from one of your children on a long trip. You look back and guess what? Your darling angel has just become car sick and it’s not pretty. In the future, there are tricks on how to get rid of car sickness. Here are some handy tips to prevent car sickness from happening when you are heading down the road.
1. Keep certain foods or candies nearby – Peppermints, saltine crackers, lollipops, (they are even special ones that are specifically designed for an upset stomach called Queasy Pops). I guess there is just something about these kinds of foods and candies that help an upset stomach. Even the nurse at my children’s school gives them peppermints when they have an upset stomach.
2. Avoid reading in the car – Normally, we don’t encourage people not to read, especially our children. However, in this case, it helps the brain process sensory data and avoid vertigo. Try to keep your eyes focused mainly to the front of the car.
3. Seabands – odd name I know, but the are wristbands with a small round metal button that presses into the inside of the wrists. They are snug and used for acupressure. There are many people that give their word they work in preventing car sickness.
4. Breathe through your mouth, don’t breathe through your nose.
5. Ice packs – Placing an ice pack to the back of the neck for 10 minutes on and then 10 minutes off can really work miracles.
Hear are a few tips to remember and try out the next time you hit the pavement for a little road trip. No one likes to be car sick and nobody else likes to be around when someone is car sick. It’s just not a pleasant experience for either party. So, just try these handy little tips to avoid car sickness and see if they don’t help you out!
