How to Get Rid of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Hand Exercises

As soon as you feel the tingling sensation begin to act up in your wrists, do some gentle hand exercises. Start by circling and twisting your wrists for two to three minutes and shake your wrists – shaking the pain away. This will stretch all the muscles in the area. Also, try “Hand Stretches.” Place your fingers in the palm of the opposite hand, then stretch them way back, hold for a few seconds, and repeat. Another form of exercise is to bunch your hand into a tight fist and release spreading your fingers as wide as possible. Repeat five to ten times and often throughout the day.

Keyboard Relief

If you have been typing on your computer keyboard for extended periods of time, every one or two hours lift your arms above your head. Rotate and twist both your arms and wrists simultaneously.

Ice It

Put your wrist on ice. A good rule of thumb according to my chiropractor is 15 minutes with the ice applied to your wrists and 45 minutes with the ice off of your wrists. If you do not have an ice pack, a bag of frozen peas works just as well.

Take A Pill

Take either an aspirin or an ibuprofen to reduce the inflammation and the pain.

Ace Your Wrist

Wear an Ace wrist bandage especially at work or during the night if you are awakened by pain. Purchase them at any drug store – get the ones which are made with Velcro.

Watch How You Sleep

When you are in bed asleep, make sure your wrists are laying on the bed and not dangling off the edge, as this can increase pressure. Also, concentrate on keeping your wrists relaxed while in bed. Do not allow stress to have your hands bunched into fists.

Rest Your Wrists

Rest your hands and wrists by stacking some pillows next to your sides and placing your arms on them. Concentrate once again on keeping those muscles relaxed.

Check Your Hand Tools

Check the grips on your tools around the house (drills, hammers, screwdrivers, etc.) – If the grips are too small for your hand, build them up by applying layers of felt. Also, when using your hand tools concentrate on using your elbow and shoulder more than your wrist – do not allow your wrist to do all the work.

The B6 Solution

Take a B6 Vitamin daily. In about six to twelve weeks, you should notice a difference in your wrists.
