The reason why cockroaches are in your home is because of water. Unlike what common myths suggest, cockroaches’ appearance has absolutely nothing to do with the cleanliness of your home. While it is important to maintain it, even the most organized and clean people have cockroaches. Roaches thrive on water. Check your home or apartment to ensure that you do not have any abundance of water in your basement, under the sink or in the bathroom. If you have checked these areas and there aren’t any apparent leaks, make sure that you are not leaving any dripping faucets or running water elsewhere.

Boric Acid

Boric Acid was initially used as an antiseptic but has gained popularity for its use as a pesticide as well. This not only kills roaches but it also attracts them. For some reason, roaches seem to love to taste of boric acid. They will feed on it and the end result is the removal of roaches and their offspring. Boric acid can be purchased at any home improvement store. It is relatively cost effective and also easy to acquire. Although boric acid is not highly toxic, it is pertinent to keep it away from children and pets since this form is for external use only.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is a natural product which is used as an abrasive cleaner and deodorizer; however, this is also a great roach killer. Roaches need water to thrive. This keeps roaches from thriving since it is dries up water. Once roaches come into contact with it, it actually dries up the water that roaches retain in their exoskeleton. Simply dust baking soda under sinks in kitchens and bathrooms or anyplace where water accumulates and you have an inexpensive roach killer and repellent.

Pesticide sprays

These sprays like Raid or foggers are great for localized roach population. If you have only a few roaches in your home, these insecticide sprays are great to keep out a few roaches while concurrently preventing the problem from spreading to other areas of the home.

Roach Bait Trays

Roach bait trays are also great for those whom are suffering from a few roaches in the home. They are localized trays that contain bait and poison and usually come in gel type trays. They attract the roaches to the trays and kill eggs and the roach themselves.

Although cockroaches seem problematic once in your home, you can achieve elimination by utilizing a few simple elimination tactics.
