How to Get Rid of Collection Agencies

gold coin stackEveryone knows about the dreaded phone calls from debt collection agencies, and everyone hates them just the same. Many times, they will call three to four times a day and many will leave harassing and threatening messages. These debt collectors have a real job, but it doesn’t give them the right to continually harass people or make threats. The good news is that there are some ways you can get rid of the collection agencies from bothering you.

Contact the Agency

One of the many things you can do is write the collection agency and dispute letter. It is required by law that the collection agency has a maximum of 30 days to respond to the letter and prove that have proof of a debt. If they can’t provide this proof in the 30 days that they have, by law they have to stop trying to collect the debt.

Debt Management

It may also be a good idea to hire some type of debt management company. These companies know how to handle these types of agencies and they will make sure that they stop all the dreaded phone calls that you are receiving from them.

Payment Plan

Another way you can go about getting rid of the collection agencies is make a payment plan with them. Talk to the agency and agree to try to pay a certain amount every month, or make a plan with them that you think you can keep; most of the times this payment plan will put an end to all the debt collection agency calls.

The End of the Line

If you are having real trouble with debt collection agencies, and they won’t stop calling and harassing you, the best thing for you to do is get a lawyer. An experienced lawyer or attorney will be able to stop the phone calls for good.

Getting rid of debt collection agencies is a great feeling. Remember though the best way to get rid of them, if they have a legitimate claim, is to pay off your debts or at least make an effort to pay them off.
