How to Get Rid of Constipation
Nobody likes to be constipated. As much as many would refuse to admit it, it happens to everyone, and can become very uncomfortable. Many factors contribute to constipation: stress, hormones, unhealthy eating habits, low activity levels, etc. The variables are strictly dependant on the individual, and all people are different. Thankfully there are ways of relieving constipation before it becomes a real pain in the behind.
The quickest way to alleviate a minor bout of constipation, is to use an enema. Some might prefer laxatives, but an occasional enema is harmless if used properly. An enema stimulates a smaller portion of the intestinal tract than a laxative, and luckily you will know where you are going be when the ‘urge’ hits you. Most likely, you will still be in the bathroom, as it generally takes effect in 2-5 minutes. Laxatives, or stool softeners, can take up to twelve hours to produce results.
Another way of relieving constipation is by adding a probiotic into your diet. Probiotics contain ‘good bacteria’, which aid in digestion and help regulate your intestinal tract. The easiest way to introduce a probiotic into your diet is by eating yogurts that contain Bifidobacterium Bifidum, or by picking up a bottle of acidophilus from the herbal section at your local grocery, or drug store.
Lastly, the simplest, and cheapest way to relieve constipation, is by drinking more water. Water is vital for the digestive system to properly digest food, and evacuate waste. Sometimes the main reason we become constipated is merely because we are not ingesting enough fluids. Aside from getting rid of constipation, drinking water has many health benefits.
We all know how important it is to alleviate constipation before it becomes too big of a problem. Please keep in mind, the best approach comes in the guise of prevention. Knowing how to get rid of constipation is just as important as knowing how to prevent it. So eat your yogurt or take acidophilus, drink your water, add fiber supplements, and if need be, introduce yourself to the enema. But rest assured, constipation will not last forever.
