How to Get Rid of Diaper Rash
A baby suffering from diaper rash is not a happy baby. The condition causes itching and burning, which results in a fussy baby and frustrated parents. The common remedies available don’t always do the trick, but there are some simple things that you can try at home which will speed the healing and get rid of diaper rash quickly.
Epsom Salt
This has been used to treat everything from dry skin to sprains and strains, but it can also work wonders on diaper rash. Run your baby a comfortably warm bath and add a few sprinkles of Epsom Salt. Make sure that you give the bath at a time when baby can soak and play for awhile. When the bath is over pat (not rub) your baby’s bottom dry with a soft towel and follow up with a conventional diaper rash treatment.

Baby Powder
Many parents prefer not to use this old standby for fear of causing breathing problems, but if used carefully it works quite well to get rid of diaper rash. The rash is made worse by the presence of moisture, which is obviously going to be found in a baby’s diaper. Try sprinkling a little powder onto your baby’s bottom after treating with a diaper rash ointment. It will stick to the cream and add an extra layer of protection from moisture. This is especially important when frequent diaper changes will be difficult, such as long car trips or at bedtime.
Lose the Diaper
One of the absolute best ways to speed healing is to let air get to the rash. Choose a place where the baby can do the least amount of damage if an accident occurs. You might want to put a thick blanket over the floor where baby will be playing, just in case. Try allowing your baby to stay bare bottomed for about half an hour a couple of times a day if possible.
Avoid Baby Wipes
One of the worst things that you can do if your baby has diaper rash is wash him with a baby wipe. Not only does it usually result in a screaming baby, it irritates the rash and makes it take even longer to heal. Try washing your baby with a soft cloth moistened with warm water instead.
While a diaper rash is rarely serious, it is without a doubt very unpleasant for both baby and parents. Give these simple tips a try and your baby is likely to be feeling better in no time at all.
