How to Get Rid of Dry Skin

Dry skin can become an uncomfortable problem if left untreated. The good news is with proper care dry, itchy skin can become soft and silky.

What Causes Dry Skin

Each season brings its own problems. The cold winter winds bring dry, chapped skin. Wearing sandals and flip-flops or going barefoot in the sand, can cause dry cracked feet. Using sunscreen not only blocks harmful rays from our bodies, but it also blocks vitamins that the sun provides.

What we eat and drink has a big part in preventing skin problems. If you have consistent problems with dry skin, it is a good idea to check your diet. Vitamin A, vitamin B and vitamin E are necessary in the prevention of this problem.

Make sure you are eating plenty of leafy vegetables, and drinking plenty of water. Eat plenty of fruits, especially citrus. Take Vitamin E capsules, and keep a bottle of Vitamin E oil on your bathroom counter to massage directly onto your face and body.

Skin that is irritated and dry can be an indication of a medical problem or even the side effect of a medication we are taking. Some cosmetics, harsh soaps, and even dry air in the home can cause problems. In some exceptions, people actually inherit this type of skin problems.

Getting Rid Of Dry Skin

The first step is to get rid of the dry skin. The most successful method I have tried is an oily soak in very warm water. As you run your bath water, pour in a small amount of baby oil. Relax and soak in the water for fifteen minutes or so. After your bath, the dead skin on your feet will be soft. Immediately remove this dead skin with a scrub brush.

Soaking your feet in a pan of warm water with baby oil will prevent dry cracked heels. Immediately after soaking your feet, use the scrub brush to remove the dead skin. You can do this while standing at the kitchen sink, or sitting on the couch.

Wearing cotton underclothes will control or at least minimize the discomfort of itching.

If you are not comfortable with using baby oil, try one of the body washes on the market that has a significant amount of moisturizing cream as an ingredient. Some of these are very effective. You can experiment with different brands until you find one that works for you.

Keeping Your Skin Soft

You can maintain your soft skin by using the beauty products that have been effective in solving dry skin problems. Moisturizing lotions that contain vitamin E, oatmeal, and oils work well.

Your Skin Needs a Drink!

Dry skin is an indication that your skin needs water. Moisturizers hold moisture in. Applying moisturizers to really dry skin doesn’t make much sense. A good time to apply lotions is just as soon as you step out of the shower. Just pat dry with a towel and massage your damp body with your lotions. Keep a spray bottle on your bathroom counter to mist your face and re-apply moisturizer when your face fills dry.

Skin that is red and irritated and doesn’t respond to home treatment could indicate a medical problem. Having a checkup from your doctor would be advisable.

Making sure your skin is replenished daily with nutrients and moisture will keep you looking great, and will spare you the discomfort of itchy, flaky skin.
