How to Get Rid of Flabby Arms

Flabby arms – this is one of those few times when a problem being common does not make it any easier to bear. Look around you – who doesn’t have flabby arms? But who doesn’t want to get rid of them? Everyone does! It shouldn’t be quite so hard if you focus. There are certain exercises that will help you tone up those arms, but remember to continue them, and make them a permanent fixture in your daily routine. Once you stop the exercises, the flab will start to show.

Most of us focus on our biceps, and on toning them, building them. What we often forget about are the triceps. And the lose skin, increasing storage of fats, all add up to give rise to flabby arms. Once you start integrating exercises for the biceps and triceps into your routine, you’ll find yourself on the right path.

One of the things we must remember is that when it comes to losing weight and reducing fat from any area, overall weight and body fat reductions are what work! You must have heard that it is not possible to spot reduce without working on your overall weight. You could’ve been told, or read about it a hundred times, but if you still have any nagging doubts, let me clear your head – “You cannot spot reduce!”

Men put on weight mostly on in their stomachs. Women, unfortunately, seem to have more than one option. They tend to store fat on their thighs, hips, buttocks, Arms, hence giving rise to pear shapes and apple shapes. So, if you are overweight, reduce your body fat, lose weight!

You’ll see that exercise and a controlled diet, leading to weight loss, and maintenance of your weight, will take care of your flabby arms. Here are some good exercises that will concentrate on the triceps, which you can try while at the gym.

  • Overhead cable extensions
  • Cable press downs
  • Weighted dips
  • Push-ups
  • Bench presses

Working out to develop muscle and reducing body fat are not the same things. If you have a high percentage of body fat, chances are the muscles you are developing in your arms are still covered by the layer of fat. So focus on reducing fat levels as well.

There are fun ways to get rid of flabby arms too! For those sporty people, pick a sport that will keep you fit, happy, healthy, and flab-free. I don’t exactly mean golf here. Even football, if you are just playing for recreation, will not focus on your arm enough. Rowing would be ideal, but not exactly very feasible! So, pick racket sports. Pick up a tennis racket, for instance, and get to work on those mean forehands and backhands. Lose your flab while you gain a new skill – can it get any better than that?

Those of you who want to get rid of your flabby arms, but just can’t seem to be able to, there’s Liposuction to consider. Doctors can use liposuction to remove the flab from your upper arms, or indeed from wherever you’d like them to, with relative ease. Personally, I would prefer sweating it out and feeling healthy to getting liposuction done. But it is worth considering! Especially if the fat just seems too stubborn, and doesn’t budge.

While you think about all of this, here’s a simple exercise to get you started! A dumbbell (3 kg) will do. Holding the dumbbell in your hand, lift your arm straight up. Now bend your arms at your elbows such that your hand is parallel to the back of your shoulder. Now repeat that 12 times, and also do it with your other hand! Simple as that – but remember to stick to the routine!
