How to Get Rid of Gas Pains

Dealing with gas pain is one of those things in life that just stinks (no pun intended). It’s a subject that we don’t like to talk about, however….it’s there all the same. It’s important to realize that there is more to gas than just flatulence; that is just merely one method of releasing gas from your body.

Some people suffer from gas pain without even realizing that they have it. Let’s take a brief moment to discuss the most common symptoms of excess gas. These symptoms include:

  • Belching
  • Flatulence
  • Abdominal bloating and distention
  • Abdominal pain and pressure

If you’ve ever suffered from the discomfort of gas pain, then you’ll know how extremely unpleasant and bothersome it can be. When you’re feeling gassy and bloated, you want relief, and you want it NOW! However, that can be hard to come by. But don’t worry, there are things you can do that will help prevent, and rid yourself of gas pain altogether.

Tip #1 – Many over the counter medications can help release gas, and reduce the bloating and distention of the abdomen. You’ll need to look for an antacid that includes Simethicone, which is a foaming agent that works with the gas bubbles in your stomach, making it easy to dispel of the gas. Several name brands come to mind, when thinking of gas relief, but the generic versions work just as well.

Tip #2 – Herbal remedies work very well in relieving gas pain. Drinking warm water with a drop of peppermint extract, or sipping hot tea with peppermint, will help to relax the intestines and make it easier for the gas to escape. Adding Ginger and chamomile to a glass of warm water or tea will also work well in alleviating excess gas, provided it is consumed immediately after a meal.

Tip #3 – Learn which food trigger your gas pain, and do what you can to avoid them. Certain foods are notorious for causing excess gas. These foods include:

  • Starchy foods such as beans, corn, and peas
  • Vegetables such as cabbage, collards, cauliflower, onions, broccoli, brussels sprouts and turnips
  • Dairy products such as milk, cheese, and ice cream

Increase your water intake, as proper water consumption will aide in digestion. Try to drink 8 – 10, 8 ounce glass of water each day. Also, avoid activities that will cause you to swallow excessive amounts of air. These activities include smoking, chewing gum, drinking from straws, or sucking on hard candy. Stay physically active too, as it is a key factor in alleviating gas pain and discomfort too.

Once you get a handle on the causes of gas pain, it will become much easier to manage. Pay close attention to your food intake, and take notes on your activity. By learning how to get rid of gas pain, you’ll enjoy a fuller, healthier lifestyle.
