How to Get Rid of Gasoline Smell
Gasoline prices are high enough, so the last thing we want to do is waste gasoline by spilling it on our clothing. The smell of gasoline is not only unpleasant but if left alone can linger for days. It is also harmful to your health, so it is important that you try to get rid of it as quickly as possible. Here are a few common household items that may be used to eliminate gasoline odor.
Baby Oil
One way to get rid of the smell of gasoline is to immediately soak your clothing in a mixture of baby oil, water and laundry detergent. If the stain is visible, you can take a cotton ball and rub some baby oil on the stain before soaking. You will want to soak your clothes for at least 5 minutes. Once they finish soaking, transfer them to the washing machine and wash separately. It may be necessary to repeat the wash to get all of the baby oil out of the clothing. Once you are satisfied that the baby oil and gasoline are out, you will want to air dry the clothing. You must not put the clothing into the dryer as they could possibly ignite a fire if there is even a trace of gasoline left in them.
Vinegar
Vinegar may also be used to remove the smell of gasoline from clothing. If you are planning to use vinegar, it is recommended that you first dry the garment and air it out by leaving it outside for a few hours in the sunshine. Once the garment has been aired out, you may now put the garment into your washing machine with your normal laundry detergent and one cup of white vinegar. If you do not have white vinegar, apple cider vinegar may be substituted. You may need to repeat the wash without the vinegar to eliminate the vinegar smell.
Baking Soda
Baking soda may also work to get rid of gasoline smell. First, take the garment and put it in a bag. Sprinkle baking soda in the bag and let it sit for a few days. Then launder separately adding baking soda to the wash with your usual laundry detergent.
All of these remedies will get rid of gasoline smell. However, the best remedy is to be careful so that you can get every drop of your gasoline into your gas tank.

I used a bag of lime to soak up the gasoline on a concrete floor of our garage. Later, after sweeping up the gas and airing out the garage, I poured white vinegar on it. After rinsing, I used dishwashing liquid and water to wash the remaining residue.
