Gophers, the lawn pest that will ruin your lawn, or your golf course (poor Bill Murray). This tiny animal can be a serious nuisance, tearing up your yard and causing hundreds of dollars worth of damage. These furry pests typically will attack lawns that contain softer, moist soil, this doesn’t mean they won’t attack other types of lawns, but they are more likely to go for the softer soil. If you think you have a gopher sighting in your lawn, you can distinguish them and their work to know for sure. The gopher builds a mound that looks somewhat fan shaped; this is how you can differentiate between gophers and other types of lawn pests.

The Smoke Out Method

This method is somewhat cruel, and could end up killing the gopher, but it is rather simple and will cost you absolutely nothing to do. Just back your vehicle up next to one of the gopher holes entrances and funnel the exhaust gas from your vehicle into the gophers home. The carbon monoxide from your vehicle could easily kill the gopher, or possibly just force him out of the ground.

We’re Drowning

Somewhat like the last method, this method involves filling the gophers home up with a foreign material. This time though, instead of using gas, we use water! Many times the gopher will end up drowning underground, but if not you can easily trap them when they do come out.

Ouch My Foot is Caught!

A simple method, that isn’t as cheap as the previous two, is purchasing gopher traps. These relatively inexpensive traps will be set just inside each of the gopher entrance holes, and eventually you will catch yourself your very own gopher.

A Professional?

You can also go out and buy a professional, yes buy a professional. I know you are confused, you’re thinking I mean hire. No, by professional, I mean go out and purchase yourself a domestic cat, or even a gopher snake to place into the gopher’s home to have him killed. Kind of like hiring a professional hit man.

These methods are just the tip of the iceberg; there are many more methods to choose from. These methods are the less expensive ones, and the ones that bring a little excitement by getting back at the gopher in an active way.
