How to Get Rid of Hangnails
Lots of women grow nails. They spend hours and hours trying to shape them and file them to get the perfect look. But most of them face the problem of hangnails. They spoil the way the nails look.
Hangnails are basically small patches of skin. These separate from the cuticle. It is interesting to note that hangnails have nothing to do with the nails but are related to the skin. In fact they have no connection with the nails. There is no denying that they are a pain. These little bits of skin can, if they get caught with something, tear and cause bleeding.
The main reason for the formation of these hangnails is biting the nails. It is more common in children as they tend to bite their nails more than adults. It is also common to adults who have the problem of nail biting. Another reason for hangnails to form is dry skin. There are a number of techniques to get rid of these hangnails. Here are some of them.
1. Avoid biting nails
2. Have a manicure and a pedicure done regularly
3. Use a nail cutter or a pair of nail scissors
4. Consult a doctor
5. Push down the cuticles
6. Make sure your hands do not get dry
Avoid biting nails
As mentioned earlier, the habit of nail biting is one of the reasons for the formation of hangnails. So quit biting your nails. Make sure the little ones refrain from biting their nails. This is the first step towards getting rid of hangnails.
Have a manicure and a pedicure done regularly
Doing this helps keep your nails clean. It helps to pamper your nails often. Regular manicures and pedicures prevent the formation of hangnails.
Use a nail cutter or a pair of nail scissors
This is probably the easiest way to get rid of these hangnails. It should be cut in the beginning of its lifecycle. Be careful to cut only the hangnails and not the skin. It is always advisable to use a sterilized pair of scissors. Soaking your hand in warm water for a while before cutting them is advisable. This helps to make the skin soft and hence, it is easier to get rid of the hangnails without much pain. One can also use any oil solution to soften them. Never try to cut the hangnails when they are hard. This will not only be painful but can also lead to infection. After cutting them, be sure to use some anti bacterial lotion. If by mistake you end up cutting your skin along with the hangnails, make sure you apply an antiseptic lotion on the skin. Also cover it with a bandage for a day or two.
Consult a doctor
If you have a constant problem with hangnails, it is better to consult a doctor than to treat them yourself. You can say that your the hangnails are infected if they get swollen and turn red. At such situations, consult a doctor immediately and do not try to remove them on your own. It will only make the situation worse.
Push down the cuticles
By doing this, the possibility of the formation of hangnails is reduced. However, it is important to make sure that the nails are moisturized before doing this. Pushing down your cuticles at least twice a week helps a lot
Make sure your hands do not get dry
As mentioned earlier, this is one of the reasons why we get hangnails. The problem of dry skin is common for people who do a lot of work in a wet or soapy environment. Try to avoid this or wear gloves.
