How to Get Rid of House Flies

house flyHouse flies can be extremely annoying, whether in your house or outside of it, these pests can get on your very last nerve. One of the biggest attractor of these annoying pests is trash. Garbage is a huge attraction to house flies because it gives them a place to let the baby maggots feed and grow, leading to more flies and more headaches. The simplest way to deal with these pests is to be proactive instead of reactive, by this I mean just keep your house clean in the first place and don’t give them a place to create more offspring. If you are more on the reactive side of things there are plenty of methods you can use to get rid of houseflies.

The Primitive Way

One of the most well known, and least original way to rid yourself of these pests, is to use a fly swatter. These simple tools have been around for some time now and are still quite effective. Additionally, if you don’t have a fly swatter or if you want to be more involved, you could also just clap your hands directly above a fly to kill it, because they almost always fly directly upwards.

Less Involved

Another way you could go about getting rid of house flies is to set up fly traps in different parts of your home. These traps are made of a special material that attracts flies and once they land on it they are stuck, somewhat like a spiders web. The thing about fly traps though is that they aren’t very attractive to the home, and having dead flies hanging about your home can be rather disgusting, but they do work very well. Just remember to replace them regularly or the flies could start to become a problem again.

The Killer Spray

Another method you could use to get rid of house flies in your home is to kill them with a spray. The things you will need to make the spray are things that are probably already lying around your home. You will need a spray bottle or a plant mister, some rubbing alcohol, and some water. Fill the spray bottle at least half full of rubbing alcohol and then fill the rest with water. The rubbing alcohol will almost cause instant death in the housefly. Just make sure you carry a paper towel around to clean up with, you don’t want a bunch of dead flies laying about your home.

The Experimental Way

This method is one many people have tried and it really seems to work. Although it isn’t certain why it really works, but it does work on keeping house flies away from your home. What you do is get Ziploc bags and fill them half full of water. A Ziploc bag for each of the entrances to your home. Hang the bags above the doors and for some reason it will help keep away flies. Some believe it’s the light reflecting through the water that scares the fly into thinking a big predator is nearby, so some even put shiny coins in the bag to help with creating reflections to scare the flies.

There are many ways you can go about getting rid of house flies, the easiest way though is of course to just keep a clean home. Make sure to spray the insides of your trash cans with Lysol after you use them, and make sure to get rid of any garbage you have around your home. If the flies have nothing to be attracted to or no way to produce offspring, then they won’t be around for long if they are even around at all.
