How to Get Rid of Indigestion

There is nothing worse than indigestion following an enjoyable meal other than not having had an enjoyable meal. Consider yourself lucky to be able to afford the luxury of good food and drink. Now, relax and think what could be causing your indigestion.

Is your indigestion better or worse depending on whom you eat with? Indigestion if it is meal oriented could be caused by psychological repressions. You might not realize how much your inner mind resents your meal partner. That resentment could be sending signals to your brain to stop the digestion of food. Your stomach is then left with loads of stomach acid that is sent up through the same channel that your food is coming down from. The meeting of the two is generally called indigestion.

In learning how to get rid of indigestion, one has to learn about oneself. What is causing your problem may have nothing to do with obesity. You need to get rid of what is causing you stress. Your stress may be a person, a situation or an obligation that you are not mentally able to handle because you can’t accept that person, situation or obligation. But, you might feel that you have no way of getting rid of that person, situation or obligation, and you act as if they have no effect on you.

Indigestion Caused by a Meal

Your indigestion is just a physical reaction to your psychological stress. You can get rid of your indigestion by doing nothing except to acknowledge to the person who is upsetting you that you feel troubled about him and would like to try eating without him for a few meals. If you no longer have indigestion, you have your answer. If you can’t tell that person that then you can take two antacid pills before you eat and wait for 15 minutes before drinking anything with your food. Drinking coffee or soft drinks with your food increases the amount of gastric acids and sends them out of your stomach in the wrong direction.

Indigestion Caused by a Situation

If you suspect the culprit of your indigestion is a situation, that is much easier to change. Don’t try to attack the situation while you are eating by rehashing it in your mind. Talk to a therapist or tire yourself out physically with exercise, at least, three times a week. Limit your food intake of heavy foods rich in butter.

Indigestion Caused by Obligations

You can get rid of your indigestion by refusing to meet the obligation that is causing your indigestion. As soon as you read this you will know. It is easier to just say no than to live with indigestion that could turn to ulcers.

Your indigestion has a psychological source that is aggravated by drinking beverages with your food, by eating food rich in butters and by trying to swallow your resentments instead of seeking help.
