How to Get Rid of Insomnia
If you can identify every object in your room with your lights off, or you can correctly tell the number of specks on your ceiling, you’re all-too familiar with insomnia. It’s a common condition that many people suffer from without realizing simple changes may be all they need to finally get a good night’s sleep. If you’re sick of counting sheep (which never works), and stressing over your lack of sleep maybe these suggestions will help you get rid of your insomnia.
Stretching Technique
Try stretching before you get in bed- doing simple stretches like touching your toes and extending your spine will release some of the physical tension in your body and make you more comfortable and settled. While a heavy workout is not a good idea because it will get your heart pumping and your body worked up, a light stretching can be relaxing and soothing for your muscles and your mental state.
Read a Book
If you’re in bed and can’t sleep, sit up, get comfortable, and read a book. Most people will tell you to leave the bedroom and read in the living room or watch TV but reading in bed is better. You’re already comfortable, laying down, and reading is low-key but still stimulating. Unlike TV, which gets you excited and energetic because you’re watching it happen, reading causes you to paint your own pictures in your mind, which will tire you out. The best part of it is that you’ll close your eyes and just drift off, you don’t have to get up and go back upstairs to your bedroom.
Have a Filling Snack
If you’re tossing and turning, fidgeting with your legs, and having a hard time keeping your eyes shut long enough to sleep, a bowl of cereal can be the perfect answer. You don’t have to have a meal, and something like chips isn’t a great choice because you’ll get hooked on eating them, but find a snack that has only a certain amount of food involved, and when you’re finished head back to bed. Having something light can help settle your stomach, which could be causing all the other restless feelings.
There is no miracle answer for how to get of insomnia. Every person is different and the cause of their insomnia will help denote the solution, so getting to the root is the long-term ideal goal. But if you’re looking to just get a good night’s sleep and wake up refreshed, one of these solutions could be perfect for you.
