How to Get Rid of Kitchen Ants
Everybody has probably experienced ants in the kitchen at some point. The cleanest kitchens can still have ants, and I say this from experience. I have bleached the heck out of the counter tops and will be ant free for about 12 hours before they start creeping in again. The ants come out of nowhere, you set out the little kitchen ant bait house things, and those ants just go right over the top of them! It is time to be a little more creative in your ant repellent. Don’t get me wrong, some ant problems can be solved with those little ant traps, but then you have those ants that just won’t go away. They are everywhere, your sink, your cupboards, your kitchen drawers and of course the cereal boxes. Here I will give you some things that I hadn’t heard of before, that friends told me about.

The first trick I learned was using coffee grounds as a barrier. This is something that you probably don’t want laying all around your kitchen, but maybe putting it outside the doors and windows would work for you. Putting a line of coffee grounds around your patio, deck or other outdoor entry ways may help deter them from even getting inside your kitchen. I did use this around my garden area and it worked great!
Another trick is using lemon juice. Buy a couple of lemons, roll them around to make them nice and soft. Cut them into quarters, squeeze around window sills and if possible around any cracks or anywhere else the ants are coming in. This not only repels the ants, it also gives your kitchen a nice, lemony fresh scent.
Cinnamon is also another deterrent for ants. Now this one may be a little more difficult because of the powder form. You distribute it the same as you would the lemon juice. Around windows, cracks and if possible the doors. The ants do no like the strong cinnamon smell and will avoid it.
There are a ton of different items you can buy at your local hardware store, and some work and some don’t. Everybody comes up with their tried and true recipe to get rid of these little buggers. Just hang in there, and keep trying. Most of the simple kitchen solutions are low cost and may even be things you already have. Nobody wants to spend a bunch of money on chemicals that won’t work.
