How to Get Rid of Ladybugs

It’s fall again and the weather is starting to get a little cooler. Before you know it, ladybugs have found a way into your home seeking shelter from the impending winter cold. Ladybugs are cute and a welcome visitor in anyone’s garden. In the house, unfortunately, too many of them can become a real nuisance. There are ways to rid your home of ladybugs that are safe and effective. Here are three examples:

Grab your Vacuum

Keep your vacuum handy if you see any of these little beetles. A wet/dry vac works the best. If you come upon a large group of them, turn on the vacuum and suck them up. When you are finished dump out the bag or container immediately. Try to do the dumping around a bug zapper if you have one. You don’t want to keep these guys in there for long because they can get pretty smelly. Also don’t be fooled by the ladybug’s sweet looks, they can be pretty nasty when you get them angry. Speed is the key to this method.

Stop the Problem Before it Starts

Check all the seals around your doors and windows, or any other crease or crevice you may notice in your house. Caulk and seal all of these exposed areas. Doing this will make it a lot more difficult for the ladybugs to even get into your house. Don’t forget to check your attic’s insulation as well. Ladybugs have been known to squeeze in between insulation and wood sheath.

Chemicals and Sprays

Another option you may want to use an insecticide to get rid of the little, pesky intruders. There are products on the market that are not harmful to humans, but spell disaster to lady bugs. It’s best to use these sprays on the outside walls of your home after you have already sealed up any of the cracks you came across earlier. The spray will last for several weeks, and will not only kill any lady bugs outside your house on contact it will also drive any other lady beetles in the immediate area into hiding.

These methods are all effective ways to get rid of ladybugs this fall. They are also the most humane. If none of these work, you may want to explore other alternatives, such as hiring a professional exterminator to make sure the ladybugs stay outdoors, and in your garden, where they belong.
