How to Get Rid of Moles

However small moles may be, they can turn out to be real pests as they make their home by burrowing in your garden or lawn. They can spoil the look of your garden by leaving molehills and mole-tunnels behind, which mind you, can be very dangerous. As a result of these tunnels, the size and yield of your plants will drastically reduce and this can also lead to weed growth. The worst part about moles is that they do not hibernate and thus can do harm to your garden year round.
It is a common belief that moles eat plants; this is however not true as moles only burrow into the soil and damage the roots of the plant that it comes in contact with, thus damaging the entire plant itself. Follow the steps given below to get rid of your mole menace once and for all!

So How Do You Get Rid Of Them?

The reasons moles make tunnels in the soil are for living and for eating grub worms. If you can somehow manage to get rid of the grub worms that are in your garden, the moles might pack and leave.

Ultrasonic devices can also be used to get rid of moles. These devices create an ultra sonic high pitched tone that is not audible to the human ear that will make a mole that’s occupying your garden think another mole is present. Since moles are extremely territorial, they will scamper away to attack your neighbors lawn.

You can buy mole repellents in your local market. Spray your lawn with these repellents. The grub worms that the moles love will start being too bad for their taste. They will curse the worms and move someplace tastier.

Another option is to buy mole poison. You can apply this poison in any mole tunnel you see in the night and the next day, you should find a dead mole carcass. However, make sure you dispose off the carcass properly as if you have pets that have a chance of eating it, they could get poisoned and die too.

Undeniably the best way to catch moles is by trapping them. However gopher traps should not be used as they can damage your lawn. Go for more subtle and safer options such as Nash, Nomol or scissor traps. Follow the instructions on the cover before using them- don’t want to get rid of ourselves here, do we?

If you do not like to go through the trouble of traps, you can make a solution at your home that can get rid of moles. Get your self a cup of Oil Soap, a quarter cup of cayenne pepper and an ounce of castor oil and mix them all together. Add some water to this mixture so that the ratio of the water to mixture is 1 to 2. Put the resultant mixture in a garden sprayer and spray the places in your garden where the mole usually travels. Also, pour some of this mixture into the mole-tunnel. This mixture is very dangerous. Make sure you use it carefully and that it does not get into your eyes.

Handy tips for the mole-terminator

1) Noon is the best time to look around the lawn for moles.
2) Moles are very clever. They hide their tunnels by making more than one trail.
3) You do not need to whack the mole a million times, take a good aim and a couple of hits can kill them. Whacking moles is easiest in the video game parlor though!
4) Moles usually are seen more during late spring to late fall.
5) Ensure that your grass is kept short as tall grass can make mole finding very difficult.
