How to Get Rid of Open Pores
When the openings of the body’s sweat glands, called pores, become open and enlarged, they not only become an unattractive cosmetic problem, they are also more susceptible to skin damage because the open pores become clogged with dirt and wax from the underlying sebaceous glands. Pollution in the environment, poor nutrition, smoking, acne outbreaks and dehydration can all cause open pores. Open pores on the face cause the skin to lack a smooth, clear appearance and can even resemble the dotted skin of a strawberry. Luckily, there are some easy and efficient steps to take to get rid of open pores.
Check your Diet
Be sure to drink at least eight glasses of water daily to keep your skin well hydrated. Replace fatty and sugar-laden packaged foods in your diet with more fresh fruits and vegetables to nourish your skin. Take daily nutritional supplements that include vitamins A, B and C, all good for skin health.
Cleanse Thoroughly and Regularly
Clean skin helps to combat the formation of open pores and helps to get rid of them more easily or at least greatly reduce their appearance. There are many effective pore reducing cleansers available without a prescription that can work to minimize or get rid of open pores. Products with alpha-hydroxy acid help to slough off dead skin cells and close open pores. Cleanse your face at least twice a day, and especially remove make-up at the end of the day. Rinse your face with cold water after giving it a thorough cleansing because cold temperatures help to close open pores and give a more firm and even texture to the skin. Applying alcohol-free toners such as witch hazel are also helpful as a last step after cleansing to get rid of open pores.
Schedule an appointment with a dermatologist to see whether or not a microdermabrasion treatment might help get rid of open pores. This procedure helps to tighten the pores and rejuvenate the skin to look more refreshed and youthful. There are also over the counter at-home microdermabrasion kits available, although the results may not be as lasting or thorough as a professional treatment.
There are a number of natural remedies which can help to tighten pores and get rid of open pores. Apply freshly squeezed tomato juice mixed with a little fresh lime juice onto the skin as a facial treatment, allow to dry, then rinse thoroughly in cold water. Other fruits with astringent qualities such as peaches, pineapple and papaya are also excellent to use in facials to get rid of open pores. Simply squeeze and apply the fresh juice or blend into a pulp and apply to the affected areas. Leave on the face for about 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with cold water and repeat every few days until the open pores are closed or minimized.
