How to Get Rid of Personal Antivirus
The Personal Antivirus is a rogue anti-spyware program that mimics the look and feel of other legitimate, popular anti-spyware software programs, such as General Antivirus and Internet Antivirus Pro. Once your computer is infected with the Personal Antivirus, you’ll start to see all sorts of “warning” messages, alerting you that your computer is under attack or infected. These messages will look very legitimate, just like legitimate antivirus software would provide. However, their intent is to get you to purchase the program being sold by the Personal Antivirus.
Don’t worry. All these warnings and alerts are absolutely fake and their one goal is to scare you into whipping out your credit card, and buying up the “paid” version of the software to remove them. Fortunately, there are plenty of knowledgeable people on the web fighting back and providing solutions to get rid of these issues safely and effectively. Here are the steps you must to take to get rid of personal antivirus:
Use MalwareBytes Software for Removal
This is the first and most important step in the removal process. You need to purchase a piece of software called MalwareBytes. Last time I checked, it’s around $25. It’s a great piece of software for getting rid of all sorts of malware and spyware programs and I’ve personally used it more than once to fix my own computers. Here’s a link to their official site: MalwareBytes.org
Once you’ve installed MalwareBytes (MB), make sure you follow the on-screen instructions to get the latest updates. Without them, the removal of Personal Antivirus may be ineffective.
Next Steps to Get Rid of Personal Antivirus
1. When in the MB program, hover over to the “Scanner” tab all the way to the left and select the option “Perform full scan”.
2. Be patient and let the scan happen. It will give you updates on how many files have been scanned and how many are infected. Watch and wait.
3. After the scan is completed, you’ll be prompted asking whether you want to show the results of the scan. Click “ok” and you’ll be able to view all the infected files.
4. The infected file names differ from case to case, but you’ll likely see the name “Personal Antivirus” in the infected files somewhere. Check all the boxes next to the infected files that were found.
5. Click “Remove Selected” for MB to remove the infected files that it found.
6. After removing the infected files, MalwareBytes will give you a log of what it completed.
At this point, you can exit the program and resume normal computer activity. Your computer should be free of the annoying “Personal Antivirus” spyware program.
