How to Get Rid of Puffy Eyes
It can be a harrowing experience and something really tragic, if you end up having puffy eyes. Crying, allergy, stress and hormonal changes are some of the factors that cause puffy eyes. Puffy eyes aren’t dangerous or life threatening but they’re very unpleasant to look at. Moreover, they give you an uncomfortable feeling. Covering up your eyes with sun glasses is a good way to hide puffy eyes, but how long is the question over here. Besides, sun glasses don’t help in removing the soreness and somnolent look in your eyes.
Some of the methods by which you can alleviate sore and puffy eyes are:
Cold Water Treatment
Many people ‘wake up’ in the mornings with sore eyes because of a sleepless night. Late night studying or night outs can also lead to sore and puffy eyes. A cold shower in the morning could help soothe the sting in your eyes. Splash some cold water in your eyes and rinse well to remove the puffiness and somnolence in your eyes. Cold water helps in constriction of blood vessels and thereby makes you feel better. Instantly, you will relish looking at your eyes in the mirror. All the puffiness would have disappeared instantly. You can do this how many ever times you want to, depending on your convenience. Of course, you don’t want to over do it and look like Mr. Freeze, so do it moderately.
Tea Bags
Don’t get carried away thinking that all the puffiness in your eyes will be removed by drinking tea. No! Your puffy problem requires tea bags and not the drink, even if you relish it. Placing tea bags over your eyes will help a lot. For three to five minutes, soak the teabags in hot water, and then let them cool for a while until they are warm enough to the touch. Put the tea bags over your eyes and cover with a soft cloth. (Don’t forget to lie down). Stay this way for a few minutes and watch all the soreness disappear. Okay, you can’t “watch” it happen, but as long as the puffiness goes, hey!
As Cool as a Cucumber
It’s the best relief that a sore eye can get. With soothing astringent properties, cucumber is the best bet that is deliciously cool and soothing. Your tired and somnolent eyes will need them badly.
Take two slices of fresh cucumber and put them in the refrigerator for a few hours. This is to enhance their cooling property. Lie down and place a slice of cucumber over your closed eyes and stay like this for at least 10 minutes. The keyword here is ‘Relax’! The sliced cucumber will heal your puffy eyes without any hassle. You can even crunch them down after you’re done.
Egg Eye-Patches
Did you know that egg whites are used often in facial treatments? This is because of their skin tightening properties that help prevent the formation of wrinkles. It is because of this property that many people attribute puffy proof eyes to the usage of egg whites.
Whip a couple of egg whites in a bowl until they become stiff. Adding a bit of witch hazel should make the recipe better. Then apply the egg whites under your eyes, preferably with a brush. Wait for a few minutes before rinsing. This will make your skin tighter and help you lose your puffy eyes.
Power-Potatoes
This tuber can help with your puffy eye problem immensely. It is generally believed that potatoes prove effective in alleviating headaches, inflammatory ailments and painful joints. Potatoes contain starch that acts as an anti-inflammatory agent and soothes soreness in the eyes.
With a sharp knife, grate the peeled potato as finely as possible. Then, put the potato bits in a clean cloth, in order to make a poultice. Place this over the eyes for 15 minutes. Goodbye puffy eyes!
The Saline Trick
If you think hogging salt-rich food stuff is going to reduce your problems, you are absolutely wrong. In fact, eating salty stuff will only increase your problems. You should use salt, but not consume it. First, get a glass of lukewarm water and mix a teaspoon of salt in it. Then, dip cotton balls or facial pads into the solution, and apply them over your eyelids. Stay in a low position for at least 10 minutes. You will wake up to see your puff-free eyes.
Besides these natural medications, there is a simple and always easily available thing that can help soothe puffy eyes, H2O, or Water! So remember to drink up the water folks! And you will have a puffy eye free day!
