How to Get Rid of Rust
People using metal objects face the perennial problem – “How does one get rid of Rust?”
Rust can form on your favorite car, knife, household articles or bathroom pipes. This becomes a painful sight for you, especially if you’ve spent some big bucks on it. It also becomes a dangerous object because if someone gets hurt by it, then, that person needs to take professional medical help. You can also use vinegar to get rid of Rust. Soak over night the rusted items in 1 cup vinegar, undiluted, for every 4 cups of water. You can actually see the rust getting removed.
You can use ¼ cup of lemon juice for every 4 cups of water and soak it overnight to get rid of rust. This can be used for very light rust.
For home purposes, you can take a small amount of baking soda in a bowl and mix it with water to form a paste. Apply this paste on the rusted area till it gets dried. You can see the rust getting removed.
You can even get rid of rust from decorative items like the ones on your car. You can do so by using a toothbrush and toothpaste. All you need to do is brush that place and leave it to dry for one minute. After one minute, wash the surface and dry it with a towel. You will get a polished look.
You can even get rid of the rust inside a motor tank of an old bike and this is done by electrolysis process. All you need is a battery charger, washing soda and a bit of wire. Combine these three and insert it into the tank after filling it. Insert the wire anode and turn on the current. After a couple of days, you will see no rust. Very interesting method for those vintage bike lovers!
Use Paint to Prevent Rust from Forming
Once the initial rust is removed, you need to paint the surface in order to prevent it from getting rusted again. Always, use a mineral spirit to clean the grease and dirt from the surface of your vehicle and allow it to dry before applying any rust preventive paint.
You can use Rustolium paint to get rid of the rust. You can also use Latex rust prevention paint to avoid further damage.
It is always better to prevent the rust than getting rid of it. This can be done by washing and waxing the vehicle very often. If you see slight patches on your vehicle, there are touch up paints available to match your car color. It can be used or else clear nail polish can be used till you get the same color of your vehicle.
It is always better to prevent the rust getting formed because it will save both time and money and your stuff will literally sing in happiness!
