How to Get Rid of Sweat Stains
When you return from the gym of after your daily jog, the most daunting task ahead is having to clean those sweaty, soggy clothes. Lest you forget to do it immediately, your clothes become stained and you have quite a mighty task at hand.
This article is devoted to those who didn’t wash their clothes immediately and are now looking for ways to remove the sweat stains as a consequence.
Sweat Stains on White Fabric
For stains on white fabrics, try hydrogen peroxide. It should be available quite easily at any nearby drug store. The compound acts as bleach and soaking your stained cloth in it will whiten your clothes. Plus, the compound is not harmful on the environment like chlorine is.
Another bleach type substance is boric acid. Make a paste of it and apply it on the stained area. After some time brush off the paste, and with it, the stain.
Another solvent that can do wonders with stains is alcohol. It is the perfect solvent as it dries quickly and does not leave any residue. It also gets rid of the stain, by the way. Plus, some alcohol solvents come with a pleasing odor which gives the clothes a pleasing smell.
Vinegar is also believed to help rid fabrics of stains. Vinegar contains acetic acid which acts on the stain dislodging it from the fabric.
Baking soda works in quite the same way as boric acid and must be used in the same way as mentioned with boric acid above.
Stronger Solutions for Sweat Stain Removal
For really tough stains one may have to resort to tougher remedies. One of these is the use of ammonia. Ammonia acts as an excellent stain removing agent but its use should be done with cars as using too much of it will completely ruin the fabric and you will end up with a rag.
Available in the market are enzyme cleaners. Now these are the enzymes that break up proteins in the body. These thus work effectively on the stains in the fabric as they are after all results of the body’s biochemical processes.
A trusted home remedy that many seem to swear by is the use of aspirin tables to remove sweat stains. The aspirin tablets are crushed and made into a paste that is then applied over the stain. The paste is allowed to dry and then scraped off while washing. Aspirin contains salicylic acid that does the same job as acetic acid does when one uses vinegar to remove stains.
In all the processes given above, it goes without saying that each of these techniques is to be followed by a regular wash of the clothes to ensure a clean and odor-free fabric for use again.
Using Natural Light
Another interesting technique that I have come across is using sunlight as a stain remover. Soak your fabric in detergent and put it out to dry in the hot sun. Make sure that you keep moistening the fabric with water at periodic intervals. This technique will work wonders especially if you live in the tropics.
Another not so common technique is the use of petrol (gasoline) to remove stains. Gasoline works exactly like alcohol and is the perfect solvent for removing those tough stains that are so hard to get rid of.
With all these methods to get rid of sweat stains from your garments, all that’s left to say is – Happy Washing!
