How to Get Rid of Tuna Smell

Fish smell. That’s the truth. They taste great, and eating fish is great for your health, but they still smell awful. When that stink gets into your house sometimes it seems it will never leave. Want to get your home smelling beautiful again? Here are a few ways to get rid of tuna smell:

Lemons

Lemons will not only help your fish taste better, they can also make them stink a lot less. Squeezing a lemon over the fish will enhance it’s taste and help neutralize the fish’s odor. Lemons can also be used to help get the smell off of your hands after you have handled the fish. Squeeze some juice into a bowl of water and soak your hands for about 3 minutes.

Vinegar

If you don’t have any lemons sitting around try a little vinegar. Distilled white vinegar works the best. The vinegar will work just as well to remove the fish smell from your hands as the lemons. It will also help your dishes smell better after being used to prepare and serve your perfect meal.

Get the Freshest Fish Possible

Fish in general have a very short shelf life. The older the fish, the stinker it will be. If you have a local fish market in your area, go there to obtain the freshest fish you can get your hands on. If the fish does need to be stored then it’s best to place it in the freezer. Wrap the fish well before doing this, usually in about 3 or 4 layers of cling wrap. Don’t store the fish in water. It will just make the fish slimy and disgusting.

Open a Window

Opening a window may seem like an obvious thing to do. You would be amazed at how many people overlook this simple solution. If you have guests coming over this is a good way to get the smell out quickly. You can also try burning some candles or incense. There are several sprays on the market that neutralize odors and leave a mild, pleasant scent behind. Another really simple thing you can do is remember to turn on your stove’s vent.

Using this simple suggestions can keep your home smelling like, well, a home. Eating fish at least 3 times a week is a wonderful way to keep your heart, your brain, and the rest of your body healthy for life…as long as you’re able to get rid of that tuna fish smell!
