How to Get Rid of Warts

Warts are growths that appear on the skin because of contact with certain viruses. But while they’re supposedly benign, warts can also be downright annoying! Especially when they’re on high-traffic locations, like fingers and toes, warts can really get in the way. Plantar warts, large and hardened growths that live on the bottoms of feet, can also cause pain during walking or standing.

The following three methods involve items available in your own home:

Garlic Treatment

This method is similar to using specially treated wart pads. But if fresh garlic is a standard item in your kitchen, you might enjoy this cost-effective, alternative way to kill warts. All you need are:

1) A slice of garlic the size of your wart
2) A band-aid

Keep the garlic slice on your wart with the band-aid until the next time you shower, then change the items. Repeat the process as long as necessary. Garlic is well-known for being a powerful antioxidant, and after extended application will easily weaken tough wart tissue.

Onions and Salt Treatment

This method involves more dedication, depending on how big the wart is. The items required are:

1) Sliced onions
2) Salt

Roll the sliced onions around in the salt, then rub the salted onions on your wart for 20 minutes at a time. This will weaken and soften the warty tissue, making it easier to peel off. The salt helps keep the process from being painful. This method is ideal for those who enjoy watching their progress! Speaking of which, you may need to wear shades for this one…

Vinegar or Kombucha Soaking

This last method can be used as preparation before the previous two. The items are:

1) Vinegar
2) Warm water
3) Kombucha (optional)

Create a vinegar solution in a small bowl of about 60% water and 40% vinegar. Then simply dip your water into the solution for about 15-20 minutes (or until you’re sick of your skin getting pruny). The wart tissue will soften, and then shrink as it dries. After waiting for the wart to dry completely, you can also do either one of the above treatments.

With any treatment, make sure to AVOID bleeding! Bleeding will put you at risk for reinfection, and cause the reversal of any progress you may have previously made. Of course, you can always ask your doctor to freeze warts off with liquid nitrogen, but these methods are tried and true – and might save you a few bucks.
