How to Get Rid of Whiteheads

Part of the malady called acne; whiteheads are also called comedowns. They can be found on the face, chest and shoulders. People of all age groups are affected by whiteheads. They usually occur in a larger number on the face, when compared to pimples. As they look like pimples many think the same medication that is used on pimples can be used on whiteheads to get rid of them. But that is not the case. Whiteheads usually are a consequence of oily and unclean skin. As the pores on the skin are blocked the bacteria remain in the pores and turn the sebum white.

Home Remedies for Removing Whiteheads

There are many clinical remedies to get rid of whiteheads, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Here we will concentrate mainly on the most helpful home remedies to get rid of whiteheads.

Use a whitehead remover. It is a stainless steel instrument with a loop like arrangement that facilitates the removal of whiteheads. It is to be used only when the skin is soft and the whitehead is ready to pop out i.e. either after a hot shower or after steaming the face with a hot washcloth. Place the loop around the whitehead and the whitehead will come out of your skin. After this, clean the face with water once again to ensure that all remnants of the whitehead are gone and voila, it’s done.

Using lemon peels to rub the face helps in opening up the pores. After this process wash your face and keep it clean.

Green tea can be used as a face scrub to keep the face smooth and flawless. Steaming the face ensures the opening up of the pores on the face. Use a face pack or exfoliator once or twice a week to unclog the pores on your face.

Face cleansers containing salicylic acid ensure that pores remain unclogged and prevent the formation of whiteheads. Face creams also help do the same.

Always ensure that old makeup is removed before you go to bed at night. Use a tissue and rub off all the makeup once you are done for the day. Using a good moisturizer helps keep the skin hydrated and prevents the formation of whiteheads.

For really oily skin, washing the face with a medicated soap helps a lot in the battle against whiteheads. However, consult your doctor before doing so as every person’s skin is different and your doctor will be able to tell you which soap suits your skin type.

Don’t Poke!

Never poke on whiteheads. They cause the reddening of skin surrounding the pore. Similarly never try and force the whitehead out. This will only lead to permanent scarring on your face.

Probably the best way to get rid of whiteheads is to take good care of your skin. Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Wash your face once in a while to make sure the skin does not remain oily and the pores remain open and clean. Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Ensure you follow a proper diet. Try avoiding pastries, fried foods, aerated drinks and chocolates. Avoid spicy food. These foods usually have an adverse effect on your skin’s health, which in turn leads to the formation of whiteheads.

If home remedies aren’t the way you want to go, then you should consult your dermatologist on how to get rid of whiteheads. There are many ways of removing them but they need to be done professionally. Your dermatologist will be able to suggest to you which treatment you should opt for depending on your skin type.
