Economic reasons

The gym does not work for you

Sometimes a particular gym might not be suitable for you. It could be too far away or the working hours may not be right. In this case canceling the membership will help in saving a lot of money that you can invest in a gym that does work for you.

You get enough exercise already

Some jobs involve a lot of manual labor and are good exercises by themselves. Or maybe you own a pool and a few exercise equipments at home and get enough exercise. In this case a gym membership is not only a waste of your money but also your time.

Your membership was a gift you just don’t need

Sometimes overly concerned friends and relatives might force a membership on you in the form of a gift. While this is a good gesture, it just might not be what you need or what you can afford.

Canceling It

This is the easiest way of getting rid of your membership. Just head to the gym office and inform them that you want to cancel the membership. Different gyms have different procedures that may involve certain amount of form filling. Some gyms also ask for a cancellation fee. But if you think canceling it will work best for you in the long run then just do it. After the initial hassle is over, you will be free from the membership you did not need in the first place. However if the membership is being paid for by your company, then you will not be allowed to do this. Some jobs involve a lot of manual labor and require you to keep fit. In this case you have no choice but to continue to use it. After all you are not paying for it!

Letting it lapse

Most gyms cancel your membership automatically if you are inactive for a particular period of time. If you can afford to wait, then simple don’t visit the gym. Sometimes, gyms require you to pay up a certain amount after your membership expires but in most cases the membership will simple be canceled without involving any work on your part. This method is particularly useful when you get a membership as a gift or if you don’t need the money right away.

Health and fitness should be top on everybody’s priority lists. However keeping fit does not necessarily mean being a member in a gym. You can always buy home equipment and work out your own schedule for keeping fit. This will not only fit your budget but it can also be bent around your work time saving you a lot of time, effort and money.
