Blood: You do not really consider it until a hit during an accident involving a sharp item or sports brings the reality within focus… a bright, messy red focus. Plus, if reminding us of our humanity is not enough, often our blood will decide to linger and hang onto our clothing. Although you cannot cease every injury from occurring, you could eradicate every trace of the blood on your clothing, and the answer will be as simple as water and soap. Things you will require to get rid of a blood stain include: a basin of cool water, meat tenderizer or soap, and a sponge.

Soak Garment

Soak immediately the clothing that has the blood stain upon it with cool water. You ought to conduct this just as soon as the soiling happens in order for the blood stain not to set in. According to an authority in Happy Living magazine, at times, just agitating the blood-stained clothing in cool water will be enough to remove the blood stain.

Use Sponge to Dab at Stain

If the blood stain still remains in the clothing utilize a regular soap bar or liquid hand soap in order to build a lather up in the basin of cool water. According to an authority in Happy Living magazine, you can agitate the fabric within the soapy water then continue on to rinse it. Utilize a sponge in order to dab at the blood stain until the blood stain is removed.

Soak Fabric for One Hour

If the bar or liquid soap is inefficient, soak your fabric within cool water for an hour, and apply a powdered meat tenderizer to the cool water. According to a source on the site Mrs. Clean, allow your garment to sit for half an hour within the cool water as well as meat tenderizer mixture, and rinse from the back to the front.

Allow to Air Dry

As the blood stain is removed, immediately wash your garment using your regular cleaning supplies or permit your garment to air dry a bit prior to placing it within your dirty clothing hamper for washing later on.

Ideally, you ought to immediately clean the blood-stained piece of clothing, yet if the blood stain was there for a while cool water ought to assist in reactivating the blood in order for you to remove it, according to a source from the website Mrs. Clean. You should never rub a blood stain, as this only causes the stain to embed deeper. Blotting it will do just fine. Do not utilize scolding water upon a blood stain, as hot water will denature the hemoglobin, causing the blood stain to stick to the fabric. The protein within the blood pulls it in. For bloody stains, cold water is your best friend, according to specialists on Mrs. Clean House. Forget about attempting to get rid of blood stains from clothing which must always be dry-cleaned. According to Heloise, take the clothing to the cleaners, inform them of the stain then allow them to handle it.

Grass stains can be an unfortunate side-effect of a day at the park or kids having fun with the dog in the yard. Unfortunately, if the stain is not treated promptly it could become a permanent addition to the article of clothing. Grass stains consist of pigments found in grass that bind to the fibers used in clothing. This is why degreasers and cleaners that contain ammonia can permanently set the stain as they increase pigment binding. If you avoid the two substances just mentioned and carefully follow the directions below, you can get those pesky stains out of almost any item of clothing.

Treat the item immediately

The longer you wait, the more set the stain will become. If you don’t have time to do any of the treatments listed, at least let the item soak in warm water until you can treat the stain.

Use a detergent that contains enzymes

Detergents that contain enzymes can break apart the chemicals that make the stain bind to fabric. Most detergents contain these enzymes, but you can check on the bottle to be sure.

Powder detergent

A useful characteristic of powder detergents is that they can be turned into an abrasive paste that can scrub away stains. Mix just enough water into a cup of detergent to moisten the powder. Then, rub into the stain with an old toothbrush until completely saturated. Immediately launder as usual.

Bleach the stain away

Bleach is the easiest way to remove stains from white clothing. Bleach alternatives can be used on color fabrics, but they are not as effective. Be sure to check the tags on clothing to ensure they can withstand this sort of treatment.

Alcohol and water rinse

Before washing the item, it can be treated with alcohol and water to loosen up the stain. First, wet a sponge with rubbing alcohol and allow to dry. Next, wet the sponge with water and detergent. Rub the grass stain vigorously until the fabric is completely saturated and then allow to dry completely. Launder as usual and the grass stain should be gone!

Molasses

An old remedy for grass stains is to use molasses or think syrup to “pull” the stain off the fabric and shoe leather. Rub molasses into the stain and rinse well. The shoes should be clean, but fabrics may have to be thrown the wash to complete the stain removal.

Vinegar and water

Mix equal parts white vinegar and water and then soak the stain. You can work the mixture into the fabric with an old toothbrush for increased effectiveness. This can help get rid of grass stains that have been in the fabric for longer amounts of time.

Remember that not all of these remedies will work for every single type of stain and fabric. It will take some experimentation to see what methods work best for you. It may even be helpful to write down what methods work for what fabrics so you can have your own handy guide that will save time and stress down the road.

Have you ever carried around that ink pen thinking that the lid was on, only to look down and see ink stains all over the front of your favorite shirt. You think to yourself, How do I get rid of this ink stain? Scissors come to mind. That’s ok if you’re needing some new dust rags. Next time, before tossing that shirt in the trash or shredding it for dust rags, try one of these easy ways to get rid of the ink stain.

Hair Spray

Place a clean cloth or paper towel under the ink stain. During the removal process, the ink will soak through to the cloth underneath. Spray the ink stain with an alcohol based hairspray until thoroughly saturated. Blot the ink stain with clean cloth and repeat until the stain is no longer visible. Use a clean cloth under the ink stain if necessary and launder as usual.
[sniplet AdSense Skyscraper]

Toothpaste

Hey it cleans your teeth why not your clothes? Use a plain paste, no gels. Apply the paste to the ink stain and allow to sit for thirty minutes, then run under cold water while scrubbing the toothpaste into the ink stain. This process may need to be repeated several times. Continue to run under cold water until all the paste is gone. Launder your garment as usual.

Vinegar

You’ll first want to soak your garment in a bowl of vinegar for 10 to 15 minutes. Using a soft bristle brush or toothbrush, scrub the ink stain. Repeat until the ink stain is removed then rinse in cold water. Launder as usual.

Milk

Yes, Milk will get rid of an ink stain. Soak the garment in a milk bath. The milk will look inky. Rinse and repeat until the ink stain is gone. Rinse in cold water. Launder as usual.

Nail Polish Remover

You’ll want to use non-acetone nail polish remover. Place a clean cloth under the ink stain. Apply enough nail polish remover to saturate the ink stain and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Blot the stain with a clean cloth. Repeat if necessary. Rinse in cold water. Launder as usual.

When dealing with ink stains remember to blot not rub and always use cold water. Hot water will set the stain and make it virtually impossible to remove. Many of these methods may take several tries before the ink stain is completely removed.

Scratches on cars are not only unsightly, but they also bring down the value of a vehicle. Scratches vary in degree. Some are minor and others can be quite severe. It is almost impossible for a car to never get a scratch during ownership, but there several effective ways of how to get rid of car scratches.

Use Paint to Cover Scratches

If a scratch is not too big or deep painting over then is simple and fairly easy to do. First wash the area that is to be painted to eliminate any debris or wax buildup which could affect the application of the paint.
Very fine sand paper should be used to sand down the scratch and this must be done carefully so not to sand down pass the surface of the scratch. Then brush away any of the dust left behind from the sanding.

Note: Make certain that the paint matches the car’s color. The car’s identification number identifies the correct color to use. If the color does not match exactly it will leave a spot that is darker or lighter in color and this may even look worse than the scratch.

The final step is to paint over the scratches according to instructions that come with the touch up paint. The scratch will not be noticeable after the paint dries overnight.

use Rubbing Compound by Hand

Rubbing compound is another effective way of how to get rid of car scratches. This method is for best for light to mild scratches. Use a mild abrasive compound and apply it to a sponge and then buff over the scratch in a circular motion until the scratch disappears. Clean the area with car soap and then wax.
Note: If the scratch is deep it is recommend that it be taken to a professional so not to make the scratch worse.

Use Wax to Buffer Car Scratches

Clean the area of where the scratch is and allow it to dry. Apply wax to a sponge. It is best to use liquid wax. Buff over the area using a circular motion and then use a soft towel clean to buff away the wax. This works wonders on light to mild scratches.

All of these methods are very effective ways of how to get rid of car scratches that are light or mild in nature. Again these methods work best on light scratches.

No matter how you look at it urine stains can be troublesome and at times embarrassing. The severity of urine stains varies with what you are trying to get them off of, and what type of urine it is. In this article we will look at how to get rid of urine stains and more importantly how to keep them gone.

Treating Urine Stains in the Restroom

Getting rid of urine stains in the restroom may not sound that difficult; however, you may have recently purchased a home where the prior occupants were not very clean. It is for this reason that many restrooms have tile or linoleum floors. Fill a mop bucket with hot water and pour a small amount of bleach in, after you have mixed the water and the bleach together, mop the floor paying special attention to the base of the toilet. Once you have mopped a few times the urine may go away if it does not you may have to use a scrub brush and give it a little extra elbow grease.

Removing Urine Stains on Carpet

Getting rid of urine stains in carpeting can be difficult. Usually people that have this problem are people that own a dog or a cat. Earlier I said getting rid of urine stains in carpet can be difficult but it is not impossible. The best way to get rid of urine stains in carpeting is to catch them when they happen, although this is not always easy to do. If you find urine stains in your carpet the first thing that you want to do, is put water on it and soak it. The next thing that you will do is get a scrub brush and scrub the area completely. This may be enough to get rid of the stain, if it doesn’t take care of the problem you may need to use a carpet cleaner and clean your carpet.

How to Get Rid of Urine Stains on a Mattress

Anyone who has ever had children has had this problem at some point in their child’s life. The best way to take care of this issue is to avoid it altogether by using a plastic mattress cover. However if you do find that you have a urine stain on a mattress, the best way to clean it up is to take water and soak the urine stained area. Once you have soaked the urine stained area do not blot it up, instead cover the wet area with a liberal amount of baking soda. After the area has dried for a few days you can vacuum it up and the stain and odor should be gone.

Leather can be one of the most beautiful apparel for a person and also one of the costliest ones. Nevertheless leather is used as a base for making several everyday accessories such as bags, shoes, sofas, etc. Whether or not you like it, leather goods are believed to be something that reflects one’s personality and attitude. But the sad part is that leather can get stained very easily. Perspiration stains, blood stains, oil based stains and wax stains are the few common types of leather stains. These stains can be really stubborn and won’t leave with normal methods or just another stain removal liquid. Fortunately there exist some quite simple methods to do the tough job of removing the leather stains.

The first step is to find out which type of leather it is. This might sound juvenile but it is a crucial step, as the type of leather determines the type of specialized leather stain removal. In case if you choose the wrong one, it can further worsen the stain or in the worst case make it impossible to remove. This rule applies especially for unpolished leather materials as a wrong stain removal solution can damage its texture or can remove its color.

“The Best defense is a Good offense”. This rule applies to leathers too. It is better to go for commercial leathers with very good leather protectors. This prevents the leather from serious damage even if the stain is very stubborn or some wrong type of stain removals is applied on it.

If the stain is recent, hand washing the leather with a mild soap or a damp cloth can help. If the stain still persists, use of good leather cleaner is advisable. This normally applies to fresh blood stains or perspiration stains. Sometimes even using soap flakes on the leather stain in this case can show impressive results.

In the case of Oil Based Stains, the person might be in greater trouble as the leather is oil absorbing in nature. Conditioning the entire leather item with an oil based conditioner will change the whole color of the leather but also will make the stain fade away to a certain extent.

Wax stains are easy to remove as wax melts away with a little high temperature. Bring a hot iron near the leather (ensure that the iron isn’t too hot else it might harm the leather). This would melt the wax away. Use a blotting paper to transfer the wax. Clean the leather with a little wet or damp clean cloth in the end.

Sometimes even a mild acid such as vinegar is helpful in removing grease based stains. Another alternative is to use chalk power and sprinkle it all over the stain. Leave it for around 24 hours and then remove the powder by simply using a leather brush.

Ink stains can be easily removed by alcohol based solvents or by using hair sprays or “After Shave Lotions” which are more commonly available. Wipe it with a clean cloth after applying them.

Though these leather stain removal tips are quite straight forward, there are some precautions to be followed. Sometimes the leather can be very dry. In those cases, the leather stains can evaporate very quickly. Hence it is advisable to dilute the stain removal lotion with 25% of distilled water. Also to speed up the natural drying time of the leather, a hair dryer held at close to 30 degrees angle can be used. It is also recommended to test the stain removal before hand on a small portion of the leather, so that any further damage due to incompatibility is minimized.

A reasonable amount of money is spent by a lot of people on their toilets alone. This includes buying expensive glossy toilet bowls, bathtubs and other such furnishings. But as beautiful as the toilet bowls looks in the beginning, it gets uglier just after few months. This is because they are very susceptible to stains, especially due to hard water deposits. The stains can be real nasty at times and do not go with simple flushing of water alone. Instead of losing your mind and entirely replacing the toilet, focusing on some very simple techniques on how to remove toilet stains can be more effective.

These methods should be carried out only by an adult as it might deal with some very corrosive and toxic chemicals. Wearing a pair of gloves and a cap, while cleaning your toilet, is a must.

The rumors about using “coke” (The soft drink) that you must have heard to clean your toilet stains are actually true. Just empty a can of coke in the toilet and leave it to sit for few hours. The more the time it is allowed to sit, the better. Use a regular toilet brush to rub the stains off after that. Flush normally and don’t be surprised to see the stains vanish! This is due to the mild acid which is present in the drink (Carbonic acid). In case you don’t have any coke in your fridge, the use of “vinegar” is an equally good alternative. Follow the same steps as above when using vinegar.

Sometimes the stains are really bad and do not leave by using a mild acid. Using a more powerful chemical such as ammonia or sulfuric acid is recommended. To remove hard water stains in the inner parts of the toilet, use a plunger to drive the water down. Pour one of these chemicals while making sure that it does not touch your skin. Let it sit for few hours and then use a toilet brush to scrub the stains. Flush once you are done.

Whether or not you believe it, but using a pumice stone works better than any of the above methods. It will cost you just few pennies but the results are simply astounding! Pumice stones are easily available in almost any grocery store or a dollar shop. Use it to scrub the stains and they would come off really easy and make your toilet look as good as new.

Few toilet cleaning products such as Santeen, are commercially distributed in the market. If you have some hard cash with you, go for these products. They work well and is pretty safe for the surface of the toilet too. Do handle them with care and keep them out of reach from children as they are toxic and harmful when taken internally.

Using bleach to dispose the stains is another alternative. Put a little bleach once a week and keep it for sometime to settle. Scrub if necessary and flush finally.

Lastly if you are too lazy to do the work or the stains are too difficult for you too handle alone, there is always professional help available out there. Professional toilet cleaners will do the job for few dollars. Sometimes they have flexible options like paying you back $10 in case if the work is not done.

Toilet stains can cause serious embarrassment irrespective of any classes in society. Hence proper toilet care and hygiene must be maintained and the above methods should be regularly executed to prevent any future stains.

Sometimes, while giving your nails a sassy nail polish coat, you might accidentally give a coat on your clothes or carpets too. Unfortunately, the coat in the latter case is more ugly than sassy. Nail polish spills are mostly thick and hence result in a difficulty to remove stains too. Nail polish removers can well remove the coat from your nails but it is dangerous to use them on other surfaces as they can spoil the texture of the surface totally. Few methods described below should be carefully followed to get that nasty stubborn stain out.

Method 1: For any stain, the first basic step is to scrape the excess solid off the surface. A spatula or a dull knife can be used for the same. Next rule is to keep the stain wet at all times. Spray several shots of water on the stain and do not let it dry again. Then put few drops of alcohol on the stain to loosen it. Dab it with a damp cloth and try removing the stain. Be careful not to damage the fabric or whatever material it is. Repeat this while keeping the stain wet, until it completely disappears.

Method 2: Use of shaving cream coupled with some hair spray also helps getting the stain off. If these are not available some paint thinners, bug sprays or rubbing alcohol can also be used. Make sure the surface does not react with these. Hence, always test it on a hidden surface first before using any of these chemicals.

Method 3: If you are near any mechanic shop, borrow some brake fluid cleaner. This is a very powerful cleaning chemical and can work even with the toughest stains. Use these on hard surfaces like wood, plastics or metals for best results. If brake fluid cleaner is not available, go for windscreen cleaners or engine cleaners. Handle it with care, as it is dangerous both environmentally and if taken internally by accident.

Method 4: Hydrogen peroxide, easily available in most of the stores or medical shops, is pretty efficient in removing nail polish stains. Works best if the stain is recent and wet. Otherwise a lot of scrubbing is required. Use a medium hard brush to scrape the stain. Make sure that it is well diluted to prevent any harm to your precious fabric.

Method 5: A solution straight from the kitchen includes the use of baking soda (chemically known as sodium bicarbonate). Make a paste and apply it over the stain. After a while, brush the stain off and wash it.

Method 6: For nail polish spills on wood, mix equal parts of vinegar and olive oil together and put it on the stain. Use some steel wool or a hard scrubber and carefully scrub the stain. A wet cloth should be used to give it a final clean. Use some cotton to wipe off the excessive liquid after cleaning.

Method 7: Some commercial products such as Goof Off or Shoot Spot, also work with these kinds of tough stains. Gently put some of this solution over the stain and rub. Watch for any discoloration and stop immediately in case of one. Its better to dilute the solution first and then gradually increase the concentration until the stain is finally out! Sometimes the use of a mild soap solution along with these can also be helpful.

On a side note, applying these methods can make nail polish stains on almost any surface to disappear with only a bit of muscle power. But utmost care has to be taken as mixing few chemicals can result in bad reactions and CAN harm you. Hence mix the chemicals very carefully and always be gentle.

Ketchup… Loved by all, spilled by all! No matter how tenderly you try to handle ketchup, spills are inevitable. Unfortunately it can leave an ugly mark or stains on whatever it falls on and sometimes these are too stubborn to come off. It can cause utter embarrassment especially during social occasions and meetings. Ketchup stains are best dealt during the initial stages of the spill, but few smart methods can also remove hard dried stains.

The best method in case of a recent spill is by simply elevating the part of the stain (In case of a garment) and washing it off with clean water. Normally holding it under a tap is a good idea, as the flowing water takes most of the ketchup off the cloth. If a tap is beyond reach, then wipe the stain with a damp cloth.

Applying glycerin to the stain, which is diluted by distilled water in the ratio of 1:2 by parts, can also be applied to the stain. This would soften the stain, in case it is dry. Leave it for sometime and then wash it with mild detergent. Occasional scrubbing can also help.

Sometimes the stain gets too stubborn, and applying a diluted peroxide solution (1:6 by parts and volume strength of 20) can do the trick. Apply this solution over the stain after washing it with normal water first. Allow the solution to do its work for sometime and wash it back again. Peroxide solution can be easily found at grocery stores or chemists. Make sure the dilution is done carefully and always wear a pair of gloves while doing it.

Using a fairly basic substance such as baking powder can also help remove those nasty ketchup stains. Sprinkle some on the stain and wait for a while. Shake the powder off and wash it with clean water.

Using soda water also seems to work for many. Soda water has a mild acid in it. Hence it helps in removing the bonds quite easily. Apply soda water on the stain and wash it well after few hours. Repeat if necessary. This works with red wine stains also. Please do not try using any other strong acid solution, as it would severely damage the surface or clothing. Using vinegar is another alternative.

Use a detergent or stain removal stick and apply over the stain. Soak the cloth in a mild detergent solution and let it sit for 30 minutes. Wash it with clean water thereafter.

To remove ketchup stains from leather, make a mild soap solution and apply it over the stain. Gently rub the stain off with a damp clean cloth. A sponge can also be used as long as the surface is smooth.

Sometimes the ketchup can spill over wallpaper. Instead of being hasty, dip a clean cloth or a sponge in warm water and gently rub the stain. Make sure it is done gently to prevent any streaks on the wallpaper. Later, using a clean dry cotton cloth, pat the area dry.

When no such chemicals are available, there is still a natural way out. Lemon can work wonderfully in case of ketchup stains. If the stain is old and dry, squeeze out some lemon juice and pour it over the stain. After a few minutes, scrub the stained area. Repeat until the stain actually starts to disappear. Wash with warm water finally.

Dealing with ketchup spills on a carpet is comparatively more difficult than the others. The first thing you need to do in such cases is to scrape the excess ketchup off the carpet. This would allow you to work on the stain left behind alone. Then spraying the stain with some dilute ammonia solution or chemicals mentioned in the steps above would help. Spray clean water on the affected area and use a blower to dry the carpet finally.

Lipstick stains on collars or on shirts, during those hot times or even accidentally are very common especially with the young generation. The bad news, lipstick being a grease based product gets finely attached to your fabric and can be never got rid of by normal washing. The good news, there are still many ways to get rid of it, just by using common household stuff. Few simple methods commonly followed to remove the lipstick stains are as follows:

Method 1: Take some denatured alcohol and put few drops on the stain. Dab it with a piece of clean cloth and do NOT rub it with your fingers as it would spread the stain. This would make the dried lipstick particles to loosen up. Use natural dish washing detergent to further weaken the bonds. Make sure that only a small amount of detergent is used (in case of a strong detergent) or use a neutral pH non bleach detergent to help protect your fabric. Lastly use a fabric wash as usual to wash the clothes. Air drying is recommended after the wash is over.

Method 2: Supposing that Alcohol is not available at that instant, you can also try dabbing some Vaseline over the stain. Wait for sometime and add few drops of dish washing detergent. Use an old toothbrush to scrub the stain of, in case it is really stubborn. Wait for about 10-15 minutes and let it sit for a while. Wash it with warm water along with some fabric wash and finally dry it.

Method 3: Another very common technique is to spray hair spray (since it is also alcohol based) or some “after shave lotion” and then wash it with warm water. This method seems to work in most of the cases!

Method 4: Somehow even applying shaving creams over the dried lipstick stain seems to work wonderfully. It acts as a very good solvent for the dried lipstick particles. Dab the stain again with a small, white and clean piece of soft cloth. Be careful not to be too hard as it would spread the stain over a larger area. Wash it with club soda this time. This cleans the stain wonderfully!

Method 5: Another great home remedy is the use of ammonia to remove the stain. Get a bottle of ammonia from the nearest chemist or any general grocery store. Blot off the stain with a lot of plain water first. Take a medium size cotton swab and soak it with ammonia. Dab the stain with this swab and leave it for few minutes. Once the stain begins to fade, wash the cloth by hand and some soapy water. Use of a mild detergent is also advisable.

Method 6: Many products such as Kleen-Touch are available in the markets which are made for removing such petroleum or grease based stains. If nothing works out, this is a wise option to go for. Generally more than a single wash is required when using these products.

Method 7: Pre-treating the stain can be risky, because when everything fails the best way is to give the textiles to the dry cleaners. Pre-treating can make it more difficult for the dry cleaners to clean the stain. Dry cleaning can be a bit high on price, but does the work wonderfully.

Method 8: Using lemon sometimes gives visible results, especially when the stain is recent. It does not affect your fabric and is hence very safe.

Removing everyday lipstick stains on your favorite garments is more of a child’s play with the little tricks pointed above. Make sure that you use the chemicals (such as ammonia) in minute amounts and handle them with care.
